In this webinar, held on 20 May 2026, Christiaan van der Tol from the University of Twente and Science Leader of the ESA Climate Change Initiative (CCI) Vegetation Parameters project presented a 21-year, high-resolution satellite dataset of vegetation properties, including foliage density (Leaf Area Index) and light absorption (FPAR), both key climate variables influencing the carbon cycle.
The webinar explained how the dataset is produced using multiple satellite sensors and improved physically based methods to reduce data gaps and uncertainty. It also highlighted the role of vegetation in the climate system and introduced how the dataset can be accessed and applied in climate and environmental research.
