OC4C contributes to the Global Carbon Budget 2025
The OC4C project is delighted to have been involved with the 2025 Global Carbon Budget (GCB) report
The GCB report provides a summary estimate of how much CO₂ is emitted (from fossil fuels and land use change) and how much is taken up (by land and ocean).
The 20th edition of the annual update was released on Thursday 13th November during the United Nations COP30.
Teams within OC4C have supported GCB 2025 by providing estimates of the global ocean CO2 sink under the fCO2 (sw) product ensemble. Two of these fCO2 (sw) products were guided by analysis within OC4C under WP2 (and SOCOMv2 Experiment 5) to include corrections for vertical temperature gradients at the ocean’s surface.
Within the Global Carbon Budget annual cycle the joint OC4C and SCOPE ocean carbonate system data (UExP-FNN-U) was updated, and this recently supported analysis within the Planetary Boundaries assessment (link to OC4C news).
