Scientific results and highlights from the XFires project

Here we present preliminary results relating to analysis of Extreme Fire Events (EFEs) versus non-extreme events in relation to GCOS-defined Essential Climate Variables (ECVs):

1. Soil Moisture (SM)

Global SM uncertainty distribution graph — Global SM uncertainty distribution. The dotted lines in panel (a) show mean global SM values for EFE, non-EFE and unburned grid cells. The shaded area indicates the mean associated uncertainty. Panel (b) displays the probability density function of SM uncertainty values in each of these grid cell categories. The XFires Project is also studying the uncertainty of the data obtained from the analysis of fire events; in the example below, corresponding to gasses emissions from EFEs.

2. Uncertainty from the analysis of fire events

The XFires project is also studying the uncertainty of the data obtained from the analysis of fire events; in the example below, corresponding to gases emissions from extreme fire events.
