In this Webinar, Annett Bartsch led an insightful session on 22 April 2026 on how satellite data can be used to monitor permafrost from space. Annett is Managing Director of b.geos as well as the Science Lead for ESA's Climate Change Initiative (CCI) Permafrost project.

The webinar explained how permafrost thaw can be identified from space, discussed the differences between Arctic lowlands and mountain areas, highlighted where the hotspots of permafrost thaw were located, and explored the different Earth observation approaches needed to capture changes in both lowland and mountain environments.
