New tender: GHG Emissions

Tender Action Number: 1-11905 — Activity Number: 1000038134

A new project aimed to enable GHG mitigation activities and sustainable reporting under the UNFCCC Paris Agreement is the subject of a new ITT released by the ESA Climate Office.

The project ITT, entitled GHG EMISSIONS (Tender Action Number: 1-11905 — Activity Number: 1000038134) requires the successful bidder to support the development of techniques and a pre-operational system to intercompare, harmonise and integrate information on sub-national to facility-scale anthropogenic GHG emissions derived using diverse satellite instruments and retrieval algorithms.

The closing date for ITT submissions is 30/11/2023 13:00 CET

Background

A large diversity of satellite instruments and retrieval algorithms are in development to support the identification and characterisation of anthropogenic GHG emission hotspots, such as fugitive emissions of methane from coal mining, oil and gas extraction, and waste/landfills.

These localised sources often present good potential for rapid mitigation, and are thus high priority targets for rapid action in response to the UNFCCC Paris Agreement, as part of an integrated GHG monitoring system encompassing all scales from local to national to global. However, a high degree of interoperability is required if users are to effectively employ this diverse ensemble of information.
