FRACCEO project kicks off

A joint project between Deltares, NERSC, TUDelft and TUMunich

On 18 September 2025, the FRACCEO project—Flood Risk Assessment in a Changing Climate for Cities using Earth Observation (EO)—officially launched with a virtual kick-off meeting. The project is funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) under the Climate Space initiative and brings together Deltares (project lead), NERSC, TUDelft, and TUM as project partners.

The initiative aims to demonstrate the value of EO data and the CCI Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) in assessing climate-related flood risks. The project is structured around five work packages:

  • WP1: Review of the State of the Art, Knowledge Gaps, and User Needs
  • WP2: Development of Method for Scientific Analysis
  • WP3: Core Scientific Activities and Uncertainty Characterisation
  • WP4: Scientific Roadmap and Data/Code Archival
  • WP5: Management, Outreach and Communication

Discussions during the meeting focused on the technical requirements to combine EO data with flood models, synthesising stakeholder engagement insights from related projects, and aligning deliverables with the upcoming IPCC Special Report on Cities.
