Snow

The Snow project generates long-time series of daily global snow extent maps from optical satellite data and daily global snow water equivalent products from passive microwave satellite data.

About the project

Seasonal snow cover is the largest single component of the cryosphere, covering 50% of the northern hemisphere’s land surface during mid winter, and is an important component of the climate system.

The ultimate objective of the Snow project is to generate homogenized long-time series of daily global snow extent maps from optical satellite data and daily global snow water equivalent products from passive microwave satellite data.
