The FORTRACK project will provide a suite of harmonised global datasets designed to support climate, biodiversity, and ecosystem-monitoring applications.
Global Tree Mortality and Forest Cover Products: Annual global maps of tree mortality and forest cover loss at 10 m spatial resolution (2017–present) will be generated and used to calculate derivatives (e.g. regional mortality rates). These products will be combined with ESA Climate Change Initiative's Biomass project data to quantify associated biomass changes, enabling assessments of carbon losses and forest-vulnerability patterns.
Global Functional Diversity Metrics: FORTRACK will generate the first global functional-diversity layers at 1 km spatial resolution. These products integrate multiple data streams, including Earth observation data, global vegetation plot records from sPlot, trait information from the TRY database, and complementary citizen-science data. The resulting metrics provide globally consistent descriptors of plant functional composition and ecosystem resilience.
