Experts and stakeholders involved in climate adaptation planning, implementation and monitoring are set to explore and identify satellite-based indicators to support climate adaptation policy.

The workshop organised by ESA and the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) aims to identify and prioritise EO data research needs, products, and services that can be used to track Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) indicators and to consider the practical steps required to support national adaptation monitoring and evaluation required for transparency reporting.

This event builds on the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) Global Stocktake Strategy, currently in development, which identified adaptation as a priority topic and called for closer collaboration between space agencies and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Ultimately the outputs will help to advance efforts to raise the visibility of adaptation as part of the second global stocktake.
