Space-enabled ‘virtual stations’ bring radar sea-level observations closer than ever to the coast
The team from ESA CCI’s Sea Level Project have now produced a long-term data set that complements and extends the measurements by coastal tide gauges, by improving the retrievals from satellite altimetry as close as possible to the coast at 756 virtual stations. These data fill, for the first time, a spatial data gap along large portions of the world’s coastlines and provide considerably refined information for climate applications.

ESA CCI Research Fellowship: Nina Raoult
This research fellowship will investigate processes governing SSM drydowns using SSM_cci and LST_cci satellite retrievals, and will further evaluate and improve the representation of SSM drydowns in land-surface models (LSMs) used to predict climate change.

Long-term permafrost record details Arctic thaw
A new permafrost record (1997-2018) details changes across the northern hemisphere. Using satellite data the 1km resolution timeseries provides ground temperature information at 1m, 2m, 5m and 10, ‘active layer’ and permafrost extent as required by GCOS.
